Achilles heel pain can be extremely painful. You might even be experiencing a severe change in your lifestyle or limitations on your moving around with daily activities.

As well as causing millions of people severe pain, resulting in restriction of movement, it can sometimes be severely debilitating too.

The fact... of the matter is that your feet take your whole body weight, so it is hardly surprising that your foot can suffer damage at some stage of your life.

Achilles heel pain is not in any way life threatening. It is certainly painful, as those who suffer from it can readily tell you.

The other irksome truth is that your feet are necessary for standing, walking, and running. Any discomfort is magnified many times by carrying all of your weight around.

Not only that… such movements can hamper and lengthen the recovery process from any achilles heel pain disorder.

There are many possible causes of Achilles Heel Pain

  • Running or jogging
  • Being overweight
  • Wearing poorly supporting footwear
  • Standing for long periods of time

The most common type of Achilles heel pain is "Plantar Fasciitis". Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation to the plantar fascia, which is a fibrous tissue layer on the sole of your foot, which is designed to add support to the arches of your feet. When your plantar fascia gets stretched too much, or when it is supporting too much weight, small tears appear in it, causing inflammation and severe heel pain.

Another type of discomfort in this area is a “heel spur”. When a spur is present, (a small growth of bone), the condition can cause Severe Heel Pain.

Heel Pain Treatment

  • If your Achilles heel pain is caused through obesity, or pregnancy, then, as you lose weight, (or in the case of expectant moms, after your child is born), the heel pain will gradually recede and will often disappear all together. If however you do not fit into any of these two categories...

The following pain treatments can help.

  • Ice Packs... A good liberal dosing of a cold ice compress can work wonders. Apply regularly, allowing 20 minutes for each exposure, but remember to put a thin towel in between the ice pack and your skin. Avoid applying directly to your skin.
  • Stretches... Stretches that work on your calf muscles are great and can really help to reduce the pain and also speed recovery.
  • Anti-inflammatories... Standard OTC (over the counter) medications such as aspirin, or ibuprofen are often found by many to help with pain relief.
  • Avoidance... avoid doing whatever it is, (some form of exercise or workout), that is the cause of your Severe Heel Pain. It's also a good idea to avoid walking barefoot as this causes undue stain on your plantar fascia.
  • Footwear support... Any footwear that offers support to the arches of your feet, or that have a raised heel, help to take strain off the plantar fascia.
  • Other... There are other devices that can help, such as strapping, night splints (only recommended by doctors in cases of more protracted, severe heel pain), or orthotic shoe inserts. Some people also use removable walking splints which are designed to keep the heel relatively immobile.

Remember...Don’t wait to restore the quality of your life! Get started now and explore the many options on this website!
