  • Tennis elbow refers to inflammation of the muscle attachments on the outer elbow (thumb side).
  • Golfers elbow is much rarer than tennis elbow

  1. Rest and put ice on the inside of your elbow
  2. Begin a strengthening program for the elbow and surrounding muscles

  • When strengthening your elbow work up to performing the exercises with 2 sets of 10 repetitions daily
  • Work slowly and don’t push through the pain.

Let’s get started with my favorite elbow stretches that our clients’ use for the relief of their elbow pain from golf and tennis.…

Triceps Stretch

  1. Sit on a chair with feet on the floor
  2. Bring your elbow up over your head at 90-degree with palm facing toward the back of shoulder
  3. Assist the stretch gently with the opposite hand or rope
  4. Return to starting position and repeat 10 times

Bicep Stretch

  1. Sit on a chair with feet on the floor
  2. Face palm forward
  3. Bring your arm behind you at a 45-degree angle
  4. Return to starting position and repeat 10 times

Wrist Extension Stretch

  1. Straighten elbow with palm facing downward
  2. Bend the wrist and fingers back gently with opposite hand
  3. Return to starting position and repeat 10 times

Wrist Flexion Stretch

  1. Extend a straight arm in front of you
  2. Palm facing downward
  3. Apply a stretch of the hand and wrist with your free hand
  4. Return to starting position and repeat 10 times

Treatment of Golfers Elbow

  • Promotes blood flow to the area to speed up healing.
  • Relieves stiffness in joint from inactivity
  • Prevent atrophy (shrinking) and tightening of the muscles from inactivity.
